Best wedding guest styles for women of a certain age

These final weeks of summer always seem to be a bit of a blur, don’t they? As we approach back-to-school and harvest season, our busy summer schedules keep pace until the holidays. Speaking of busy – wedding season won’t be over for some time yet. So with more weddings ahead of us, what is the best apparel to wear to a wedding for women over 50?

The beautiful thing about 21st century fashion is that anything goes! Gone are the days of the drab floor length/evening dress being the go-to for women over 50 to wear as a wedding guest (of course, we want to keep etiquette in mind depending on the type of wedding). Let’s talk options!

Ok… hear us out on this one! When you think of the shirtwaist style, you are probably having visions of something your mother or grandmother would’ve worn in the ’50s. We have come a long way, ladies. Fashion evolves. How gorgeous is this cinnamon colored dress Oprah dawned at the Sydney Opera House?! A modern-twist on the shirtwaist, Oprah rocked this floor length gown with a button up bodice. We’ve put together a few pieces by brands you love from Amazon. Rock the shirtwaist look for just about $100!

Now, you might still be asking what a woman over 50 should wear to a wedding! We get that the shirtwaist look might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

More women of a certain age are opting for an a-line or midi dress when attending a wedding. We LOVE this emerald green dress Jennifer Lopez recently sported. No, it’s not the green dress that might come to mind when you think of JLO (although, we LOVE that one too).

The dress we’re referring to has 1/2 length sleeves, clean lines, and a midi silhouette. If you like this look, we found a gorgeous navy blue dress with an a-line hem at Nordstrom by Adrianna Papell. Check it out! We would pair this one with a pair of neutral pumps, and a navy clutch. Bring in some of your favorite jewelry pieces to complete the look.

What do you think of these looks? We hope that you were able to find some inspiration within this post, and we would love to hear from you in the comment section below.
